Residents all over Montgomery County reported smelling smoke, chemical burning, and general "pungent" odors on Tuesday. The smell and some smoke wafted over from Burlington County, NJ, where 600 acres of forest were being burned as part of the state's controlled burning strategy. The burning is designed to prevent uncontrolled forest fires. New Jersey's fire service warden says the state aims to burn 20,000 acres per year.
